screenings around town: Lang, von Sternberg, Dietrich

Two great screening series going on right now: Fritz Lang at The Heights, and Josef von Sternberg/Marlene Dietrich collaborations at The Trylon. In the case of the latter, there's perhaps no more straightforward description of the femme fatale than the title of The Devil Is A Woman, which is playing in two weeks.

If you don't know either of these venues, they're both worth checking out. The Heights is a lovely old cinema, built in 1926, in Columbia Heights, and The Trylon, as Minneapolis's only microcinema, does some of the most adventurous programming around town. As an added bonus, all these films will be screened on 35mm!

UPDATE: Forgot to mention that a couple of the films that are showing in the Sternberg series are mentioned in the Laura Mulvey reading. To see what she means when she says "Sternberg produces the ultimate fetish," come see Dietrich in action. Blonde Venus and Shanghai Express have their last showings on Sunday, 2/19, then next weekend there's The Scarlet Empress and The Devil Is a Woman.
